25 Songs About Fruits Every Fruit Lover Should Hear

John Godfrey

When we take a walk in springtime, or when we open the fridge or go to a market. No wonder fruits inspired many artists too.

Thanks to their genius, we got many songs centred around fruits. Cherry could be lips, or an apple tree might mean family.

So, let’s take a look at the greatest songs ever written about fruits!

1. Led Zeppelin – Tangerine

We begin with one of the greatest tracks of a legendary band. According to Robert Plant, this song is about the ones we do love the most.

It is the expression of love in the most innocent stages. I believe tangerine is a sweet name to give your lover. The Guitar solos of Jimmy Page make everything even sweeter!

2. Banana Wind – Jimmy Buffett

Sometimes only a title is enough to get you into the mood. Banana Wind is an amazing fruit song. It is instrumental but the title and music complete each other perfectly.

As you might expect, there is a heavy Caribbean tropical feeling in the music. This track is like a gentle wind touches your skin.

3. R.E.M.- Orange Crush

R.E.M.’s 1988 hit Orange Crush is the one that made them world-famous. This is an amazing track on Vietnam War and its effects on an American man.

Orange Crush here is the orange agent used in forest areas of Vietnam against civilians. I love the beautiful guitar tone and the dialogue-like setting of vocal & back vocals.

4. Peach Blossom – Eels

Peach Blossom begins with a remarkable guitar riff you won’t forget so easily. I particularly like how this riff, beats, and tone of vocal combined.

Peach Blossom, along with other Chinese fruits here are metaphors of ‘’good feeling’’. If you feel confused or a bit down, open the window and smell the peach blossom. Things gonna be alright.

5. Cherry, Cherry – Neil Diamond

This one indeed is a fruit song. Rock and roll is a great way to express love feelings. When it is done with fruit on lyrics, it is even more fun!

With the great clapping rhythm and vocals of Neil Diamond, we hear one of the nicest of love songs.

6. Life Is A Lemon And I Want My Money Back – Meat Loaf

Meat Loaf created one of the latest hard rock hits in music history. The title of the song has some kind of humour, but it actually is quite serious.

We hear a man talking of injustice and phoniness of each so-called important aspect of life. Life is sour as a lemon and there needs to be some compensation.

7. Strawberry Fields Forever – The Beatles

Strawberry Fields Forever is not only the most famous song about fruit around. It is probably one of the most popular tracks of all time. This was a period many bands were experimenting with psychedelia.

They wanted to get out of the classic rock and roll schemes. Only from the first 30 seconds of this track, you can get that the effort is incredible.

Synths, strange guitar pickings, unseen drum parts… All are here in strawberry fields!

8. Cherry Lips – Garbage

An amazing Garbage track with deep lyrics. Here there is a story of a boy with cherry lips and high heels. It is hard to get without checking out the source of it.

The song is about an abused boy character from J.T. Le Roy’s book, Sarah. The boy uses the name ‘’Cherry Vanilla’’. The track has this wah-wah pattern and an amazing beat catches you.

What is more, are the perfect vocals of Shirley Manson!

9. Peach – Prince

Well, finally we got a song referring to fruit itself! This sexy track by Prince depicts a hot lady looking like a peach.

Peach here dressed in red has great skin and acts foxy. This is a great example of a fruit associated with perfectness. Music is rocking, and Prince is at his best!

10. Apples and Tangerines – The Phoenix Foundation

I love this song! Written as a soundtrack for the movie Eagle Vs Shark, the New Zealandic band pushes the limits of sweetness! ‘’You’re apples and I’m tangerines, different fruits from the same tree’’.

Well, sometimes such simple lyrics can be the best expressions of love. Melody is also unique. Surely one of the best indie-rock love tunes.

11. Little Green Apples – O.C. Smith

A jazzy soul classic will melt your heart! Little Green Apples promises an outstanding musical joy. It includes so many instruments and beautiful harmonies.

Lyrics are nothing different than a beautiful poem as well. The theme is the power of love that is able to beat each bad feeling.

12. Peaches & Cream – Noah Davis

One of the newest songs about fruits, Peaches & Cream is a modern soul ballad.

Everything is in right place here. Rhythms, electronics, and even the autotune some of us don’t like from time to time.

‘’The joy of love should not be missed’’ is the recommendation Davis gives to his lover. When you taste it, it is sweet as peaches and cream.

13. Apple Tree – Wolfmother

A perfect rock song got everything you need. Strong vocals, cleverly set rhythm changes, and clear-cut guitar solos. Apple Tree is a strange love song dedicated to the father of a girl.

So the guy is the one picking the apple tree. He is the one being around his house for to see the girl he loves. One of the coolest fruit songs out here!

14. Cherry – Lana del Rey

Let’s step down a bit and talk about sad feelings. First of all, this track’s musical setting is wonderful. Starting with subtle arpeggios, it rises up with great electro-beats.

The lyrics talk about a girl defining the love in her mind first. Then she explains what she got in return. All her cherries, peaches, and thymes are falling into pieces when she is with her lover.

Well, such a nice way to express desperation.

15. Strawberry Swing – Coldplay

A jingle-jungle guitar tune greets you as this dreamy track starts. I like how the rhythm is going syncopated all through this track! Lyrics are talking about a past time spent with the lover.

They were walking to the strawberry swing and all was great when they were together. Strawberry is mostly a metaphor for dreamy and comforting memories or places. That’s quite interesting but this is how we feel!

16. Peaches N Cream – Snoop Dogg ft. Charlie Wilson

Fun times, chilling, and sex is the main courses for Snoop Dogg. Well, the song is for sure fun. Unlike his other more R&B tracks, Peaches N Cream is a funky song.

The lyrics are all about the description of a woman who seemed to impress Snoop Dogg. If you know him a little bit, you will guess what peaches and cream might mean!

17. Cherry Pie – Warrant

Back into the 90s rock scene! This hard rock classic feels like it is reincarnated from the mid-70s.

Like Snoop Dogg’s idea, Cherry Pie is about a woman too. ‘’You’re my cherry pie’’ is one of the many expressions we use for the ones we love. Well, here you got a moving song and it is all about it!

18. The White Stripes – Apple Blossom

I prefer the word ‘’Apple Blossom’’ to ‘’Cherry Pie’’. Apple Blossom is the symbol of freshness and beauty. This classic rock tune with a retro feeling starts with this word.

Here we see a Jack White trying to understand a girl. She hangs out lonely, she doesn’t tell about her troubles. The track is like an effort to figure out that reserved woman.

19. Coconut Skins – Damien Rice

One of the calmest folk-rock tunes on our list, Coconut Skins holds a special place. Cooking coconut skins here is one of the many things you can do with the one you love.

The important thing though, you should not care what others care about. The theme of the song is that you gotta follow your feelings whatever they say.

20. One Bad Apple – The Osmonds

This is one of the most moving tracks among all songs with fruit! Great vocals, funky bass lines, and amazing brass! Well, the music of the 70s never stops surprising me with its quality.

The lyrics are unique also. We see a man trying to win the heart of a girl saying ‘’One bad apple don’t spoil the whole bunch’’. A great way to say ‘’I am not like the other man that made you sad’’.

21. Sour Cherry – The Kills

The remarkable 80s punk-like intro of that track always catches me! Another quality is that you never hear one solo vocal. It’s not only about the bold vocal line and creative guitars!

Lyrics also differ from other songs about fruits. ‘’So now I am the only sour cherry on the fruit stand’’ means ‘’Well, you don’t like me anymore, so go home’’.

22. Blueberry Hill – Fats Domino

Another classic song loved by everyone I know. Blueberry Hill is an older tune from the 40s actually. But nobody could beat the rock and roll style cover of Fats Domino.

I like how relaxed but also perfect his vocals are. It is always between speech and singing. This adds up to the story of the dreamy Blueberry Hill promising happiness for lovers.

23. Cherry Baby – Starz

Rock musicians somewhat created more songs on fruits. Cherry is in the centre again.

Thick bass lines and sharp vocals are making up the core of this tune. Cherry baby, like only cherry or cherry-pie, is again used to describe a woman.

24. Strange Fruit – Billie Holiday

Well… This is one of the most popular but also the saddest songs about fruits. When I hear the music, I just can’t believe this tune is from 1939. It is very visionary when you look at its music and lyrics.

Strange Fruit is one of the harshest commentaries on the lynching of black people in the USA. No wonder Holiday got threats from many. Including the US state for the massive effect of this masterpiece.

25. Peaches – Presidents of the United States of America

NRI didn’t want to end up on our list in a sorrowful mood. This delicious fruit song promises you sun, peaches, and fun. Besides the catchy music besides, I love that the song is only about peaches.

‘’Movin’ to the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches’’ means ‘’I will feel good and relaxed’’. Well, that’s what we need most of the time!

Conclusion

That’s the end of our list of songs about fruits. Some are sour, some are sweet, and some hanging on trees like the bodies of innocent ones. Fruits are these strange colourful creations that force us to think about ourselves.

Their taste and look remind us of our lovers or our feelings. This is really a strange thing to do when you think about it. But it always works out and we can not stop using the fruits as an expression of mood.

I hope you enjoyed the list! To discover more great songs, don’t forget to check out the other ones!
